It’s the most wonderful time of the year! No, I’m not talking about the holidays, I’m talking about college football bowl season! If your team gets a chance to play in a bowl game, you absolutely need to go! You won’t regret it. But if "not going" is a sad reality that you have already come to terms with, don’t worry, I am sure true fans will be Snapchatting the first touchdown and live streaming big plays on Facebook. So... there's that.
Anyways, here are the basics to make sure you are college bowl game ready. Enjoy!
Travel Safe! ✈️
Getting to the Game:
So the big announcement happened last Sunday, and now you know exactly where you’ll be traveling for your school’s bowl game. The first thing you should do is start looking into airfare. Spend the time doing some research into the best options possible! Save yourself some cash this holiday/bowl season, look around, Groupon that-ish.
Sometimes bowl games will even offer travel packages to the game, so don’t forget to check those out too. Might be worth it! These packages often include airfare, hotels and tickets to the game and its usual festivities.
If you’re lucky enough to be within driving distance of your team’s game then you really have no excuse. Even a road trip 10 or more hours away is going to provide some incredible experiences. Pack the car and bring your closest friends because we all know road trips are so much better with company.
Don't forget the Tickets! 🏈
Getting into the Game:
Tickets to your game are probably already on sale and might even be sold out, but no need to worry. Most bowl games offer resale options and third-party sites like StubHub and Vivid Seats are great for price scouting too so keep an open mind.
Your school will likely sell tickets on its own but sometimes these can be pretty pricey. Keep an eye on the sections reserved for your university though, you’ll want to make sure you’re sitting with your fans. Although you can take on the challenge of being surrounded by a different team. But I wouldn’t recommend it for your bowl experience.
Watching the Game! 📺
Pick a Place:
If you aren’t able to make the game in person then it’s important to get your plans figured out. Don't be that loser texting his friends the day of, trying to find somewhere to watch the game. You don't need that kind of stress during this joyous time of year. Scrambling to make plans on game day can be a hassle and is entirely avoidable with a few simple planning measures.
Sports bars are always a great option, but wherever you go make sure you look for three things: a big TV, a huge selection of food and plenty of beverage options. A neon sign of your university logo is also a tell tale sign that you are running with a good crowd.
And let’s be honest, if you plan on watching your team celebrate a big win you’re going to want to be with people you enjoy. Nothing is worse than being stuck in a bar or at someone’s place with obnoxious fans that are rooting against your team.
